according to the latest 2004 edition of America's Best
Colleges, published by U.S. News and World Report.

HPU is ranked within the second tier of western region schools
and scored among the top 14 of those schools for campus

"Best

to a comprehensive student survey. Students were asked to
rate their colleges by academics, student life, student
body, admissions, and other factors.
According
to HPU student responses, the university academics received
high marks due to its small class size, and the caliber
of its professors. As one student put it HPU faculty
get a 12 on a scale of 1 to 10. |

these schools than any others" writes author Fred Rugg.
Rugg also recommends HPU's Business, Communication/Journalism,
Computer Science, Entrepreneurial Studies, Environmental
Studies, International Relations/Studies, Marine Science
and Nursing programs as among the top in the country.

(Students in free enterprise)が3年連続して地方チャンピオンに選ばれる
3年間続けてHPUのステューデント・イン・フリー・エンタープライズ(SIFE)が地方大会の部でチャンピオンに選ばれた。この大会は2003年4月14日にワイキキ・ビーチ・マリオット・ホテルにて開催された。HPUの優勝チームは5月10−13日にミズーリ州カンザス・シティーにて開催される全国大会出場予定。この大会にはアメリカ国内250校3000人の学生が参加し、それぞれのグローバル・フリー・エンタープライズ・プロジェクトについて発表する予定。 SIFEの詳細はこちら

The Organizational Development Journal 2002 Best Article of the
Year A panel of judges recently recognized a two-part article written
by HPU professors, Dr. Jerry Glover and Dr. Gordon Jones, and other
co-authors, as the 2002 Best Article of the Year published in the
Organizational Development Journal. The article, "Adaptive Leadership:
When Change is Not Enough" and "Adaptive Leadership: Four Principles
for Being Adaptive" discussed the need for adaptive leadership and
four principle ingredients for enhancing adaptive potential in leaders
and organizations. In honor of their distinguished contribution
to the field of organizational development, Dr. Glover, Dr. Jones,
and their co-authors received a plaque and a $2000 cash award. Dr.
Jerry Glover is a professor of organizational change at Hawaii Pacific
University and the Program Chair for the Master of Arts in Organizational
Change program. Dr. Gordon Jones is a professor of computer science
and information systems and the Program Chair for the Master of

HPU Professor Participates in Fulbright
Seminar

Dr. Niti Villinger, assistant professor of management in the College
of Business Administration is one of nine participants nationwide
selected to attend the Fulbright Hays Seminar Abroad program in
Brazil this summer. The seminar is designed to promote an understanding
of the resources and economy of Brazil. "
I am very happy to be part of such an important trip," says Dr.
Villinger, "My research studies have focused on emerging markets
and Brazil is an important emerging market in the world." Dr. Villinger
received her Ph.D. in international business and management at the
University of Cambridge (UK). In addition to lecturing at Wolfson
College and the University of Chicago, she has worked for a number
of companies in Germany, including Siemens Public Communications
Network.
Outstanding HPU Faculty Awarded
Golden Apples by Peers
Hawaii Pacific University faculty recognized their own by bestowing
Golden Apple Awards to outstanding colleagues. The award honors
professors for their significant contributions to HPU in teaching.
Ken
Schoolland, associate professor of economics, received the Golden
Apple Award for Distinguished Teaching, an award recognizing the
recipients use of creative and innovative teaching strategies in
the pursuit of teaching excellence. Schoolland is hailed for using
a variety of interacting teaching tools, including debates and Socratic
methodology to raise fundamental questions about ethical issues
and current events. A Sam Walton Fellow, Schoolland is the coach
for HPU's Students in Free Enterprise, a team that twice won national
championships. Among his numerous publication is the satirical book,
The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible: A Free Market Odyssey, which
is currently published in 27 languages.
Dr.
Russell Hart, associate professor of history, received the Golden
Apple Award for Excellence in Scholarship, an award recognizing
outstanding scholarship at HPU. In his young career to date, Dr.
Hart has produced five co-authored books, countless articles, and
a national award winning monograph, Clash of Arms: How the Allies
Won in Normandy. Dr. Hart is also active in furthering scholarship
in his field through participation in major conferences and as an
editor of a series of books on warfare in the 20th century.
